Adjunct Faculty - Accounting
Virginia's Community College System is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for Accounting. Responsibilities
Teach specific classes in the designated discipline
Develop course syllabi and instructional materials
Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress
Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS
Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization
Meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations
May be required to perform other duties as assigned
May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in Accounting or master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Accounting coursework or master's degree in qualifying related field (Business, Finance, Taxation) combined with Commonwealth of Virginia Certified Public Accountant designation. Qualifying degree(s) and coursework must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution
A minimum of two years of full-time college-level teaching experience in the teaching field and/or related occupational experience
Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students
Ability to use formative and summative assessment measure to enhance student learning
Experience with or ability to utilize proven teaching strategies that promote student success
Ability to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills
Available to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes
Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area
Preferred
Expertise in the area of Accounting, GAAP and other quantitative areas of accounting such as tax, cost, state, local and non-profit accounting
Active CPA license is preferred in addition to other accounting related certificates or credentials
Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard or Canvas)
Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment
Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency
Prior experience teaching in higher education
