The Town of East Hartford Public Works is seeking a Fleet Repair Supervisor. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Town vehicles, supervising mechanics and ensuring effective preventive maintenance programs are in place.

Responsibilities

Supervises the work objectives and activities of a medium-sized work group involved in fleet maintenance and major repairs
Supervises journey-level mechanics and some semi-skilled workers
Coordinates work with user departments to reduce vehicle downtime
Supervises and implements a preventive maintenance program
Gathers and analyzes information, makes recommendations, and prepares reports
Implements operating procedures and recommends operating policies
Assists in preparing specifications for vehicles, equipment, radio equipment, plows, spreaders, special truck units, and related equipment
Counsels employees and provides training; administers oral warnings and recommends more serious disciplinary measures
Interviews job applicants and recommends selection; conducts employee performance evaluations
Assures safe work practices
Coordinates operations with other Town functions and government agencies
Assists in obtaining personnel, materials, and equipment necessary to complete assigned projects and objectives
Recommends repairs to be made by outside vendors; contacts vendors and follows up on repairs
Participates in repair operations as needed and provides advice and direction to subordinate mechanics, especially regarding more difficult repairs

Required

A high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by courses or training in automotive and heavy equipment repair
Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in automotive repair, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
