Counsel, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain

The Legal Staff Counsel supporting Global Purchasing and Supply Chain will provide strategic legal guidance on commercial, procurement, and supply chain matters, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance business objectives and manage legal risks.

Responsibilities
Draft, negotiate, and interpret complex commercial agreements, including strategic sourcing, technology, licensing, and supply‑chain‑related contracts
Provide legal and strategic advice to GPSC clients to advance business objectives while appropriately balancing risk
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to structure transactions, resolve legal issues, and support execution of key initiatives
Develop, refine, and implement contracting processes, playbooks, templates, and training to improve efficiency and consistency
Analyze and advise on complex, multi‑factor legal and operational issues with clarity, judgment, and an enterprise‑wide risk perspective
Build strong working relationships with clients, legal colleagues, and business partners across GM
Qualification
Required
6+ years of legal experience with a focus on commercial or transactional matters
Must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; ability to obtain Michigan in‑house counsel admission if required
Experience advising on strategic commercial relationships or high‑value transactions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple legal practice groups and business functions
Proven track record of initiative, integrity, resilience, and managing multiple large‑scale projects
Experience identifying and implementing process improvements or operational efficiencies
Preferred
Experience using or willingness to adopt AI‑powered legal tools, contract automation systems, advanced research platforms, and other technology‑enabled resources
Exposure to technology transactions or intellectual property issues (preferred, not required)
Limited domestic or international travel may be necessary
Hybrid or on‑site work expectations may apply depending on GM policy
