MECHANICAL INSPECTOR SR
The City of Nampa is seeking a Mechanical Inspector Senior to oversee mechanical inspections and coordinate the building inspection program. The role involves performing complex inspections, resolving contractor complaints, and providing direction to mechanical inspectors.

Responsibilities
Primary inspection duties include residential and commercial mechanical inspections for permitted work
Performs inspections for non-permitted work, vacant buildings and dangerous building conditions
Performs mechanical plan review for up to 50% of scheduled time
Provides direction for mechanical inspectors and schedules the inspection routes for the mechanical inspectors
Assists in coordination of inspection assignments of inspection team as necessary
Assists the Building Inspector Supervisor and inspection team in resolving field correction issues
Provides an overall view of daily and in-progress inspections and field corrections to the supervisor
Provides effective professional liaison between the Department and other City Departments, representatives from public agencies, area businesses, and the public
Compose, prepare correspondence, memos, reports and other materials related to inspections
Interprets and applies departmental or office rules, policies and regulations in accordance with prescribed procedures and guidelines
Responds to citizen complaints related to field inspection activities
Develops, analyzes, and defends program documentation, project reports, and legal positions associated with the codes, policies, and ordinance
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
Possesses a customer focused attitude with a results-driven approach to problem solving
Adaptability to work independently in the field on complex assignments and collaboratively with inspection staff
Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned

Qualification
Required
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
5 years plus years of experience as a mechanical inspector; or licensed HVAC journeyman experience (preferred), knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the scope of work
ICC Residential Mechanical Inspector Certification and ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification or ability to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire date
Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer using standard and customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
Ability to learn the overall duties and responsibilities of the position
Ability to learn and interpret building codes and City ordinances
Ability to deal with a wide range of persons and communicate effectively both orally and in writing using both technical and non-technical language
Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions, use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions, and prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines
Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
Preferred
Licensed HVAC journeyman experience (preferred)
Additional inspection discipline certifications are preferred and include ICC Residential Inspector, ICC Commercial Inspector, knowledge and ability to obtain and additional discipline certification within 12 months of hire date
