Responsibilities

Oversee and direct the hiring, training, mentoring, and retention of field and laboratory inspectors and technicians as well as our staff of Engineers and Geologists
Lead and develop the operations and administration of a regional office to include staffing, assets, clients and financial performance
Provide engineering oversight for geotechnical, environmental and construction testing services lines and work to expand these service lines
Review and provide directions for the preparation of proposals and reports and responding to submittals and RFIs
Assume role as Engineering Manager for regional school and hospital projects
Oversee project management for projects in construction, including developing scope of work budgets and schedules, reviewing progress reports, reviewing project billings, verifying draft change orders and invoices, reviewing and approving expenses and payables, and assisting with payment collections
Support SALEM’s Health and Safety training and have a strong commitment to health and safety in the workplace and field
Coordinate with regional counterparts to optimize staffing utilization and profitability
As needed, perform jobsite geotechnical observations and engineering review during construction and provide detailed written and verbal project site reports
Review and oversee the supervision of the nuclear gauge radiation safety program for the Rancho Cucamonga office as the Alternate Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO), including ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining records, and training personnel
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and communicate clearly and effectively when conversing and transmitting information to contractors, subcontractors, staff, project managers, supervisors, and others
Interact and build strong relationships with clients, partnering professional firms, contractors and/or subcontractor representatives. Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service and responsiveness to client needs
Interact and engage with professional organizations and trade groups to further the professions of engineering and geology
Assist other work groups within the same or different discipline or office locations on an as-needed basis

Required

Active PE license (Professional Engineer) in the field of Civil Engineering is required
Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering is required
Minimum of 8 years' experience working in the geotechnical and/or construction testing field
Minimum of 2 years' experience is serving as Engineering Manager, Field Supervisor, or Laboratory Supervisor under a DSA-LEA certified program
Knowledge of geotechnical regulatory protocols
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities
Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment
Ability to perform advanced project management tasks
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Ability to visit project sites in California to observe and review geotechnical aspects of construction as needed, and for job-site training of staff
Ability to work during evenings and weekends, when needed
Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and be able to complete thorough background check
