Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking a QA/QC Inspector to provide support for the Detonator Production Enterprise mission by performing complex inspections and developing inspection processes and strategies. The role involves using advanced inspection tools, interpreting engineering blueprints, and ensuring product quality through effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities
Incumbent develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence
Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of original work
Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor
Sets up and operates advanced inspection tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions
Uses and interprets engineering blueprints, sketches, specifications, and related data to assist in the evaluation of design factors, conducting operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment, recommending modifications, troubleshooting malfunctions, documenting findings and reporting results
Performs in-process quality control and inspection in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures
Demonstrates effective communication skills and strong organizational approach to performing work
Attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to proactively seek solutions to a variety of challenges that require close interaction and strong communication with engineers, machinists and inspectors, and other metrology related stakeholders
Candidate may provide leadership to our staff to ensure adequate process operations and provides higher level communication and support to meet project deliverables
Contributions are of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of the entire group accomplishments
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated advanced experience with metrology and dimensional inspection equipment and operations
Demonstrated advanced understanding and working knowledge of the principles associated with Measurement & Test Equipment calibration, gage measurement repeatability and reproduce-ability and measurement uncertainty
General experience performing basic set-up, alignments, maintenance, operations and/or calibration of conventional tools and/or equipment
Comprehensive understanding and demonstrated experience in the interpretation of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, theories, and concepts as they apply to inspection activities
Advanced experience working with or knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages such as PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Quindos and/or PC-DMIS CMM software
Background in shop mathematics and English-Metric unit conversions including applied trigonometry
Demonstrated experience in the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing techniques
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers
Must be willing to work with hazardous materials in a shop floor environment
Proficiency with basic computer programs such as Adobe Acrobat, MS Office, and Outlook
Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship
Master of technical knowledge of inspection methods and quality control field inspections relating to a single discipline
Master of knowledge of and demonstrated experience in metrology and inspections operations
Master of knowledge of production activities which relate to an assigned area of responsibility
Mastery level experience working with or knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages such as PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Quindos and/or PC-DMIS CMM software
Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 4 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Position requires an Associate's Degree or formal Machinist Apprenticeship Program and 6 years of experience in equivalent machining, inspection, examination, or test activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Preferred
Demonstrated experience working with inspection related equipment, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), and familiarity with various software applications and programming
Demonstrated experience working with LANL S&CL and/or other NVLAP calibration laboratory sources used to obtain NIST traceable measurements certifications
Demonstrated experience with Quality Assurance activities in a manufacturing shop environment
Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of nuclear weapons complex manufacturing
ASQ Certifications (CQE, CQI, CQT)
Experience with materials having RAD, toxic, pyrophoric, explosive, and/or other hazardous characteristics
Active DOE Q Clearance
