Responsibilities
Lead the development and delivery of roadway design tasks for MDOT SHA and public-sector clients
Prepare and review geometric designs, including horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, and cross sections
Support the production and quality control of PS&E packages, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates
Ensure compliance with MDOT SHA standards, AASHTO, FHWA, and applicable design criteria
Coordinate with internal traffic, drainage, environmental, and utility teams, as well as subconsultants
Perform detailed technical reviews to maintain quality, accuracy, and constructability
Manage task-level scopes, schedules, and deliverables with limited supervision
Mentor designers and EITs while assuming increasing project leadership responsibilities
Coordinate with DOT reviewers and project stakeholders as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland
11 to 15 years of experience in highway or roadway engineering
Direct experience delivering DOT roadway projects
Working knowledge of MDOT SHA Roadway Design Guide, Book of Standards, and Standard Specifications
Proficiency with roadway design software, including OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation
Experience transitioning projects from V8i to ORD is a plus
Ability to lead technical design tasks with minimal oversight
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Experience delivering MDOT SHA or MDTA projects
Experience with urban roadway and multimodal design
Construction-phase engineering support experience
Multi-project or task-lead coordination experience
