They are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist Intern to complete training in laboratory testing, perform pre-analytical and post-analytical activities, and support the operation of the department while adhering to safety policies.

Responsibilities
Completes initial training in the assigned area using previously tested samples, including instrument operation and maintenance
Performs pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, function checks, specimen collection, biological specimen processing, and cleaning and disinfection of laboratory equipment and spaces
May conduct post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, reports results (including highly abnormal results) in accordance with established procedures, and provides technical and support information related to laboratory testing for all age groups
Receives, prioritizes, and processes specimens in a timely manner to meet or exceed turnaround time standards
Assists with data collection and special projects as assigned, and documents and submits required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics/reports
Reads and understands all Laboratory documents and forms for the assigned area
Resolves customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested
Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and adheres to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies
Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing initial and refresher training for proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use, and disposal of personal protective equipment
Recognizes the responsibility for staying current on all written or electronic communication and accepts accountability for knowledge attainment
Participates in various support activities to facilitate the operation of the assigned department or work area
Other duties as assigned
