QUALITY LEAD (LAB) - B SHIFT

Responsibilities

Inspects semi-finished components including, but not limited to, bolt blank stock, washers, internally and externally threaded fasteners, and raw material for conformance to customer specifications and production/manufacturing drawings
Inspects precision machined components and sub-assemblies for conformance to predetermined mechanical standards, specifications and tolerances according to the company’s quality procedures, production drawings, and industry standards
Final inspection of close tolerance fasteners by the company’s internal procedures and customer requirements
Maintains inspection reports and records inspection data on department-approved forms
Able to use precision measuring equipment and perform detailed dimensional inspections as required
Coordinates inspection activities with the leads and employees in the area where work is being performed
Reads and comprehends blueprints
May be required to determine methods of inspection to be used
Inspects, adjusts, and verifies accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments for conformance to specifications and issues gages to support factory production
Review calibration certifications according to quality procedures and purchase order requirements
Development of First Article inspection documents and creates inspection reports per quality procedures
Review of final inspection documentation and assist the compliance team as needed
Responsible for scanning of paperwork, filing, data entry, and product certification as needed. Processing customer returns in accordance with quality procedures and polices
Attends PMRT meetings as needed to assist in dispositions of rejection tags
Performs preliminary review of product rejections issued by inspectors
Trains less skilled employees or Trainees
Check all machine equipment at the beginning and end of shift to promote safe start
PSM 1 meeting with all areas in the lab and attend PSM 2 meetings
Lead will be responsible to keep production flowing: schedule the production daily for the shift. delegate jobs and troubleshoot issues as the arise to prevent bottlenecks
Lead projects within their work areas
Maintain a supply inventory
Order supplies if needed
Delegate job task to different area of the Inspection side
Lead PSM 1 meeting
Gamba walks around the department
Send out the daily report in the beginning of shift and end of shift
Summit tickets for maintenance request
Responsible for the refresher training for Inspectors
Safety: Ensure proper PPE usage across the department, identifies safety concerns, and provide ideas and leadership to improve safety

Leads are responsible to maintain a product supplies list to avoid running out
Leads are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by federal, local, and state government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE procedures
Leads are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirement to management’s attention immediately
Performs and assists in the physical and metallurgical tests on in-process and final production parts. Performs tasks associated with the movement of materials, supplies, and finished goods to designated areas throughout the facility
Performs preparation techniques of Metallurgical mounts such as grinding, cutting, polishing and etching
Assists in the preparation of in-process tests on setup parts from various manufacturing operations
Reads and understands drawings and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures and sampling plans
Performs tests associated with Mechanical Testing, such as tensile, shear, fatigue, stress durability, head docility, installation force, torque and other tests to ensure conformance to quality requirements and/or specifications
Performs in-process tests on setup parts from various manufacturing operations
Reports any safety violation, test equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to Supervisor
Analyzes drawings and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures and sampling plans
Verify calibration on all test equipment before use

Verifies and ensures all jobs and materials have accurate information on the identification tags and the correct documentation has been completed
Assist in raw material verification when needed
Move parts and materials to and from factories and departments as indicated on material documentation
Delivers part samples to quality lab for inspection and evaluation when required
Enters work order information in the Shop Floor System in preparation for shipping
Review lab test results to ensure all operations have been performed and completed
Assists in the Shipping and Receiving department with stocking and re-stocking, ensuring all product and materials has accurate weight and or piece count
Assist the Preliminary Material Review Team (PMRT)
Sorts parts in the Quality Assurance Lab when needed
Conducts lab sampling when needed
Verification and inspection of raw material as required
Assists manufacturing and quality control in determining conformance of in-process and finished products to customer specifications and drawings
Ensures maintenance and calibration on all equipment and that raw materials meet specification and calibration requirements
Performs data reduction calculations. Takes photo macro and micrographs
Assists engineering in the research of test programs by writing laboratory test reports when necessary. Develops new laboratory test procedures. Performs developmental and failure analysis programs

GageTrak System (CAL01/CAL02) – Create, maintain, and issue all gages used by production through the GageTrak System
Control of Gage Room (CAL03) – monitor daily temperature and humidity requirements in gage room
Trulok Setup (CAL04) – Use spreadsheet to find correct offset and insert
Calibration (CAL05 - CAL18) – Calibration of various gages performed in house. Responsible to calibrate the gage, update the entry in the tracking system, and update calibration sticker. Example gages: micrometer, caliper, tri-rolls, broach gages, etc
Test Bolt Inventory Management (CAL19) – Control test bolt inventory in the gage room used by operators and technicians. Issue test bolts and request additional test bolts as needed from stock
New Gage Process (CAL20/CAL21) – Requesting quotes for new gages and inputting orders into ordering system Kissflow
Calibration Scheduling Control (CAL20, CAL22/23, & CAL26) – Request quotes for outside calibration, schedule, and coordinate all activities related to outside or internal calibrations
Reporting (CAL25) – Send weekly and biweekly reports to all production and quality areas for gage calibration due dates
Certification review (CAL24 & CAL27) – Review lab and gage certs upon receipt for correct requirements and condition notes
Engineering Projects (CAL28) – Act as a gage expert and resource for various engineering project
Measurement of Uncertainty Calculation (CAL29) – Control and maintain the measurement of uncertainty calculations for all required gages
Trains less skilled employees or Trainees
Adheres and implements all company HSE policies, procedures, and practices
Safety: Ensure proper PPE usage across the department, identifies safety concerns, and provide ideas and leadership to improve safety

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent education
Minimum 5-8 years of metallurgical or physical laboratory experience
Understanding of test equipment and lab procedures
Or a combination of inspection and lab procedures
Completion of college-level mathematics, metallographic, or mechanical engineering a plus
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Basic mainframe computer systems and familiar with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software, Database systems
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
Ability to speak or listen and requires eye-hand coordination, repetitive hand and arm movement and manual dexterity
Must regularly bend, reach to shoulder level and lift, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 30 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
Hearing level within normal/average range
