Responsibilities

Responsible for leading the overall field execution of WSP’s safety management scope of work for the Greenlink Nevada Program
Coordinate technical and operational aspects of safety, ensuring alignment with contract scope and regulatory standards
Serve as the WSP field safety liaison between NV Energy, contractors, consultants, and agency representatives
Oversee the implementation of construction safety strategies and promote a culture of safety excellence
Participate in executive-level client briefings, board meetings, and progress reporting forums
Evaluate contractor safety performance and participate in performance reviews and closeout assessments
Contribute to innovation initiatives by promoting new tools, technologies, and process improvements
Communicating known job site hazards to WSP employees, WSP subcontractors, construction contractors, and NV Energy
Develop, maintain, and execute Project safety management plan and other safety related project execution plan documents
Develop, maintain, and execute WSP’s Site-Specific Safety Plan(s) for the Program
WSP’s Safety Manager will review all contractor(s) SSSPs and work plans to ensure compliance with NV Energy Safety Requirements and all applicable federal, state, and/or local laws/regulations. This includes subcontractors of WSP
Assists to identify, and provide contact information for, the local medical, fire, and law enforcement agencies closest to the Project site
Reviewing contract requirements related to safety and health with the construction contractor(s) and their subcontractors’ designated representatives; including, but not limited to, rules and procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), allowable working hours, and special work permits or specialized work procedures
Informs WSP’s subcontractors’ designated representatives of the emergency response plan requirements respective to the Project site
Participates in daily tailboard meetings and other project meetings as required
Performs thorough periodic/random safety audits, reporting safety discrepancies/deficiencies. Audit results requiring corrective action, training, or other follow-up will be shared with WSP Management and Company
Observing and reporting unsafe work activities to WSP Management, and/or NV Energy safety representative on a defined cadence and in accordance with the 1st Application reporting platform
Facilitates the implementation and processing of the NV Energy 1st Application reporting on the program. This includes, but not limited to field engagement, job observation, safety meeting, and safety incidents, including injury, vehicle damage, equipment damage, inadvertent operation, near miss, hazard identification, good catch, serious injury/fatality exposure and work stoppage
Reviews construction contractor incident report and root cause analysis
Processes WSP and NV Energy incident report and root cause analysis
Maintains records to demonstrate Program compliance on the POWER360 software program and 1st Application. Files related to safety which include, but not limited to:
Safety Manager Site Reports
Contractor’s other Safety Training Logs and Certificates
Contractor’s JHAs and tailboards
Incident/Accident reports
Verifying new WSP employees and all other project personnel complete the project EHS orientation training prior to working. Responsible for maintaining the project EHS orientation training completion roster and issuance of hard hat stickers. If required, notifies project personnel of orientation training expiration and verifies re-training is completed
Provides technical input into WSP employee and subcontractor accident, injury, and property damage/loss investigations and providing details to the corporate safety department
Ensures WSP follows NV Energy’s incident and accident reporting procedures as well as WSP company procedures as outlined in WSP’s Corporate Safety Plan

Required

Bachelor's degree in safety management or closely related discipline, or demonstrated proven equivalent experience
OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent health and safety training
10+ years of relevant overall experience as a safety manager of large complex electrical infrastructure projects
Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and manage subordinate safety managers and coordinate work activities amongst stakeholders
Proven history of managing multi-site safety programs
In-depth understanding of: OSHA standards (especially 29 CFR 1926 for construction), State and local safety codes
Expertise in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis
Ability to foster a culture of safety, not just enforce compliance
Skilled in developing and delivering safety training programs
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Proactive risk mitigation mindset
Ability to prepare and present executive-level progress reports, technical documentation, and briefings
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership, clients, and contractors under high-pressure situations
Capable of working across offices and geographic regions to support distributed project delivery
Record of ethical leadership, client stewardship, and operational excellence
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
First Aid/CPR Certification
