AOG (Aircraft on Ground) Engineer

Responsibilities

Responsible for engineering support on various aircraft structures, systems, interiors, and avionics
Develop and substantiate repairs and dispositions for discrepancies on transport category aircraft
Prepare and issue Engineering Authorizations (EA) and Technical Orders (TO) for accomplishment by the applicable maintenance departments, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company requirements
Provide technical expertise to Maintenance Control and Technicians on AOG or problematic aircraft. Liaise with Planning, Materials and Maintenance departments to assist with aircraft return to service
Provide engineering support to vendors performing heavy checks on company aircraft
Prepare and publish manual supplements for typical repairs
Recommend engineering improvements to Fleet Engineering for incorporation into the maintenance program, drawing on operational experience
Troubleshoot chronic aircraft defects, review recent aircraft defects and resulting operational interruptions daily, issuing follow-up recommendations as needed.Monitor aircraft health through strategic use of the Embraer Ahead application
Represent the Company at industry activities and steering committees, promoting the goals of the Engineering organization (Advanced level – Senior AOG Engineering)
Mentor less experienced Engineers (Advanced level – Senior AOG Engineering)

Required

Bachelor's degree with a focus in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering or 2 years of aerospace or related engineering experience or 4 years aircraft maintenance training/experience in lieu of this degree
Ability to learn airline safety and operating standards, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Horizon Air M&E policies/procedures and other Horizon Air operating policies/practices and demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance
Ability to learn project and change management systems
Problem solving, planning, and analytical skills. Self-starter who takes initiative in finding solutions to difficult and unique problems/opportunities
Team player with good internal customer service skills
Effective communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to execute on multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is key
Show decision-making confidence by working independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
Valid passport and ability to travel as needed for work related activities
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on business needs including extended shifts, irregular start times and possibly night/swing shift coverage
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum age of 18
Must be authorized to work in the U.S
2 years of aerospace engineering or related engineering experience or 4 years of aircraft maintenance experience required
Knowledge and experience with airline safety and operating standards, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Horizon Air M&E policies/procedures and other Horizon Air operating policies/practices that would reflect commitment to safety and compliance
Ability to substantiate minor repairs and alterations
4 years of aerospace engineering or related engineering experience or 6 years of aircraft maintenance experience required
Expert level understanding and application of airline safety and operating standards, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Horizon Air M&E policies/procedures and other Horizon Air operating policies/practices that demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to safety and compliance
Superior problem solving, planning, and analytical skills. Self-starter who takes initiative in finding solutions to difficult and unique problems/opportunities
Team player with exceptional internal customer service skills
Exceptional communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation
Demonstrated ability to quickly scope situations, develop an accurate understanding of risks, and develop plans responsive to those risks
Ability to guide and influence team members to successful outcomes
