Instructional Program Coordinator - Fire Prevention

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) is seeking a Fire Prevention Instructional Program Coordinator to oversee the training group at the Department of Fire Services. This part-time role involves coordinating training programs, managing budgets, and ensuring adherence to NFPA standards while serving as a subject matter expert.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Under the leadership and direction of the supervising Program Coordinator III, is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the training group at the MFA
Working with Program Coordinator III, prepares annual budget and annual training objectives
Serves as the primary subject matter expert for the training group
Responsible for the overall delivery of all deliveries in the training group
Where applicable, submits required documentation for evaluation for credential credits and OEMS credits
Monitors adherence to the annual budget as well as future forecasting for the program
Responsible for new program development as well as current program updates in accordance with current NFPA standards including curricula, instructional materials and student materials
Schedules course session and required information in the Learning Management System (LMS) including but not limited to: location, resources, instructors, crib support, lodging/hotel, course materials
Creates flyer for marketing distribution
Verifies and proofs all press releases for the PIO
Administers the selection of students for priority select courses
Functions in the capacity of Lead Instructor and/or day‐of logistical support
Research, schedules and secures speakers, lecturers, subject matter experts, or any other key players/participants for their respective discipline as needed
Acts as liaison between MFA and partner entities to deliver specific collaborative and comprehensive programs
Responsible for the maintaining and completing of all course completion documentation paperwork, rosters, attendance records and score sheets
Communicates with certification branch to schedule closed exams and verify student course completion by submitting master rosters and completed score sheets as needed
Works with Staff Services to recruit and develop instructors for the training group
Directs technical supervision of assistant coordinators and all instructors in the training group
Helps develop new instructors through coaching, mentoring, teaching and guiding
On an annual basis, evaluates all instructors that work in the training group
Assigns and supervises the instructors who teach within the discipline to ensure quality and consistency
Maintains list of future course requests
Prepares and ensures all facilities, props and equipment are ready for use for the program deliveries
Accessible to students to reconcile or prevent student or classroom issues
Operates in accordance with the Standard Operating Policies of the Commonwealth, DFS and MFA
Actively participates in Coordinator meetings
May be assigned additional projects by MFA management
Facilitates and hosts NFA courses related to program division and assigns instructors to audit for internal instruction of state-sponsored deliveries
Actively participates in simulation (SIM) software trainings
Actively participates in curriculum development and virtual delivery platform trainings
Responsible for creating simulations for use in training group’s programs
Responsible for reviewing training applications submitted for credential credit
Seeks out and reviews fire service activities, trainings, and functions to be awarded credit for Fire Prevention Officer Credential based on the NFPA 1031 Standard
Serves as technical expert to review all training and candidate applications for Fire Prevention Officer Credential

Required

Must have a minimum of four years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience such as a fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention position with a department
Must have completed Fire Instructor II course and been promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA and 1 year experience in curriculum development or a minimum four years of equivalent experience of instructional curriculum development and course delivery

Preferred

Must be Credentialed to Fire Prevention Officer – Level 2 or Inspector 2 Certified
Must have a thorough understanding of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code
Must be familiar with the various associated NFPA codes and standards associated with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code
Must be familiar with the various sections of the International Building Code
Fire Instructor II certification
Must have superior interpersonal skills
Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
Must be well organized and a team player
Must have a demonstrated work record to support the skills required
Must have a thorough knowledge of the program that is being coordinated
