Water Quality Technician
City of Red Oak, Texas is seeking a Water Quality Technician to monitor and control the City’s water distribution and wastewater systems. The role involves performing specialized tasks related to water quality monitoring, maintaining infrastructure, and responding to public inquiries regarding water service issues.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Conduct daily water quality monitoring and reporting
Collect and submit water samples in accordance with regulatory requirements
Monitor and operate the SCADA system
Monitor, adjust, and maintain disinfectant chemical levels
Perform water quality and pressure testing
Conduct routine safety and security inspections at water and wastewater facilities
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair valves, pumps, motors, and related equipment
Clean and maintain equipment on a daily basis
Operate pump stations and lift stations using automated or manual controls as required
Safely handle chlorine cylinders and liquid ammonia
Assist with inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of water and sewer lines
Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding water quality, pressure, and service issues
Operate crane lift trucks to remove and install pumps, motors, and other equipment
Safely operate a variety of Public Works equipment, including manual, power, and motor-driven machinery and hand tools
Support positive relationships between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions
Perform all duties in compliance with established work instructions, procedures, policies, and safety standards
Identify, document, and report operational issues; recommend or implement solutions as appropriate
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Demonstrate a cooperative attitude and work effectively as part of a team
Protect classified, confidential, and sensitive information
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools as required
Work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed to complete assigned tasks
Comply with all departmental safety program policies and procedures
Represent the City of Red Oak in a professional and appropriate manner at all times
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or GED required
A minimum of two (2) years of current, consecutive years of municipal service
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with clear driving record
NIMS Training obtained within six months of hire
Class II Wastewater Collection License and Class C Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) Licensing from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or ability to obtain within two (2) year of employment
Demonstrated experience safely operating tools and equipment listed above
Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in cleaning, maintenance and repair of utilities
Skill in operating various functions of a water distribution system
Sufficient knowledge of water and wastewater utility operations
Excellent knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions require to perform tasks safely
Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions/and or complaints and dealing with the general public in everyday activities
Ability to work within established guidelines
Ability to perform repetitious tasks
Ability to use and operate pick-up truck and miscellaneous power tools
Ability to focus on minor details and handle data, information, numbers with precision and accuracy
Ability to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Ability to safely perform all physical requirements of the job, including strenuous tasks under varying weather conditions
