Molecular Laboratory Technician

Pretorian Labs is seeking a Molecular Laboratory Technician who plays a crucial role in processing specimens and conducting molecular assays. The technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, managing supplies, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols while providing high-quality service in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Performs moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses routine and specialized automated and non-automated laboratory procedures and/or techniques for which qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab section operating procedures including RT-PCR assays
Ensures operation of all laboratory analytical equipment by calibration, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
Provides information to internal and external clients by answering questions and requests
Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by annually completing a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education
Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and protocol
Assists the Molecular Technical Supervisors and the Medical Director in developing and distributing proficiency samples, analysis, and reporting of testing results
Identifies the technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results and assists in developing corrective action plans
Instructs personnel in work team(s) on new methods and/or instruments. Teaches laboratory procedures, processes, and policies, including methodology and instrument operation
Assist with writing and reviewing of Standard Operating Procedures
Provides technical information and/or instruction to clients, and new employees as requested and where appropriate
Maintains open and effective communication with personnel within the work team, and with members of other teams throughout the laboratory
Assist Molecular Technical Supervisor and Medical Director with the review and development of quality control metrics
This position requires repetitive motions for long lengths of time
This position requires standing and sitting for long periods of time

Required

Bachelor of Science in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science OR Associate degree in chemical, physical/biological science, or medical laboratory, or equivalent education and training OR be an individual that performed high complexity testing on or before April 24th, 1995, with a high school diploma or equivalent. With documented training, can perform testing only for those tests with documented training dated prior to September 1st, 1997 OR be an individual previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under CFR.493.1489 and CFR.493.1491 on or before February 28th, 1992
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA regulations
Ability to listen, learn, and assume responsibility and accountability for all lab processes
Able and willing to follow established protocols employing acceptable molecular standards of analysis and the use of judgment in searching for solutions or new applications within one's own experiences
Must adhere to proper use of personal protective equipment while working in the laboratory
Proficient in the use and operation of Microsoft Word and Excel
Must be flexible, innovative, and self-motivated

Preferred

Work experience in a molecular, clinical, or high complexity testing lab
Work experience in a high-throughput testing lab
Experience with CLIA, COLA, and CAP standards
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
