Senior Technical Lead

Responsibilities

Engage, support, and mentor residential energy efficiency contractors and installers participating in energy programs that serve primarily lower-income and historically disadvantaged households in Portland-metro, northern Willamette Valley, and northern Oregon coast
Provide initial project scope reviews to ensure appropriate specifications are in place before installation
Conduct in-field QA verifications and run diagnostic testing for multiple residential energy efficiency programs
Learn and implement standardized QA Provider processes, systems, and requirements
Provide one-on-one and group trainings to installers and trades, with a focus on HVAC, duct sealing, air sealing, insulation, and heat pump water heaters
Work closely with Earth Advantage’s Senior Technical Advisor and Quality Assurance Manager to evaluate residential heat pump design and installation practices to ensure optimal performance of systems
Work closely with Earth Advantage’s Senior Technical Advisor and Quality Assurance Manager to evaluate residential heat pump water heating installation practices to ensure optimal performance of systems
Represent Earth Advantage in interactions with installers, homeowners, and program partners
Provide feedback and mentoring on energy efficiency project specifications to organizational stakeholders and trade partners
Complete regular and timely QA reporting and follow-up with project stakeholders
Work closely with Earth Advantage’s Senior Technical Advisor and Quality Assurance Manager to evaluate residential heat pump design and installation practices to ensure optimal performance of systems
Participate in delivering contractor training on energy efficiency topics, such as heat pump system selection, heat load calculations, duct sealing and testing, and heat pump water heater installation best practices
Participate in building science research projects that focus on a variety of residential energy and building science topics
Participate as a member of Earth Advantage’s Home Energy Score team
Conduct in-home and/or remote quality assurance reviews for multiple Home Energy Score programs
Perform accurate home energy assessments of single-family homes using US DOE Home Energy Score modeling protocol
Clearly communicate needed scoring corrections to the home energy assessor under review
Provide information about relevant Home Energy Score program requirements to home energy assessors on a one-on-one basis
Act as a conduit between home energy assessors, Home Energy Score Manager, and homeowner or homeowner’s representative
Respond to upcoming changes in program requirements, as necessary
Perform diagnostic testing as needed: blower door testing
Represent the Home Energy Score programs in the field and in written communication
Complete assessments and all associated forms, energy modeling, CRM data entry, and correspondence. Achieve prompt turnaround time on completed QA reports. Ensure scoring corrections are made by home energy assessors quickly after sending QA reports

Required

Deep commitment to Earth Advantage's mission
Minimum 5 years of technical residential energy efficiency and/or home performance experience
Familiarity with residential energy modeling
Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and vehicle
Availability to work occasional weekends or evenings
Occasionally carry and maneuver bulky field equipment that weighs 30-40lbs
Comfortable in confined spaces such as attics and crawlspaces

Preferred

Associate's degree in building science or a Bachelor's of Science degree
BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) or Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) credentialing (current or past)
Proficiency with home energy assessment software, such as Snugg Pro, Home Energy Score, etc
Two+ years of experience delivering training to installation trades or as part of residential energy workforce development initiatives
Professional working knowledge of a second language is a plus
Any of the following credentials: RESNET HERS Rater, Home Energy Score – Home Energy Assessor, LEED for Homes Green Rater, ENERGY STAR Verifier, Energy Trust of Oregon EPS Verifier
