Utility Design Coordinator - LA Metro Project

Steiner Consulting Inc is seeking an experienced Utility Design Coordinator to support the LA Metro Southeast Gateway LRT Project. The successful candidate will coordinate the planning, design, and relocation of utilities to support major transportation infrastructure works, requiring strong technical knowledge and schedule management skills.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the design and relocation of gas, oil, water, and related underground utilities in support of LRT construction
Act as the primary liaison between utility owners, designers, contractors, and the project team
Review utility drawings, technical submissions, and design packages for constructability and compliance
Identify utility conflicts and support development of mitigation and relocation strategies
Track action items, commitments, and deliverables arising from coordination meetings and design reviews
Follow up with internal teams and third parties to ensure timely completion of assigned actions
Monitor utility design schedules, approvals, and dependencies to support overall project timelines
Maintain logs for utilities, conflicts, action items, and correspondence
Support permitting, agreements, and third-party approvals related to utility work
Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and status reports as required
Attend coordination meetings, design reviews, and site meetings
Ensure utility coordination activities align with project schedule, standards, and requirements

Required

Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
5+ years of experience in utility coordination or design, preferably on major infrastructure or LRT projects
Strong working knowledge of utility systems
Demonstrated experience managing action items, follow-ups, and deadlines across multiple stakeholders
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and utility records
Proficiency with MS Office; experience with QuickBase, Procore, BlueBeam
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment

Preferred

Previous experience on large transportation infrastructure projects
Familiarity with utility agreements, permits, and right-of-way constraints
Field experience supporting construction activities
Knowledge of local utility standards and practices
