Virology/Serology Microbiologist Supervisor (DOH/SLD #10966)
The New Mexico Department of Health is seeking a Virology/Serology Microbiologist Supervisor to oversee daily activities within the Virology/Serology testing section. This role involves supervising personnel, ensuring testing deadlines are met, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities
Oversee daily activities within the Virology/Serology testing section that serves the state supported agencies
Ensure that the testing deadlines are met and testing schedules are maintained uninterrupted
Ensure test results are accurate and personnel are supervised and competency trained
Maintain CAP (College of American Pathologists) certification and adhere to OSHA, SL and DOH policies
Perform moderate to high-complexity infectious disease clinical laboratory testing on animal and human biological specimens via automated clinical machines and/or manual bench procedures
Complete and maintain all necessary quality assurance, quality control and specimen reporting requirements as required by our regulatory agency
Supervise employees to ensure workflow meets sample testing throughput
Work with supervisor to ensure all work is completed
Perform bench methods when needed and ensure a balance workload is maintained for section employees
Communicate and provide results to external partners when needed
Interpret, record, and report analytical test results accurately following the established Standard Operating Procedure(s)
Monitor inventory of reagents, kits, and disposables so that no interruptions in testing occur
Assist with revision of Standard Operating Procedures for the section
Comply with various departmental safety rules and regulations
Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines, the current edition of the Centers for Disease and Prevention Control Bio-safety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Select Agents and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences with emphasis on chemistry, mathematics, and/or computer science
Two (2) years experience in biology, microbiology, virology, parasitological and/or molecular biology specialization in a laboratory setting
Capable of passing Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) security clearance for access to laboratories holding Select Agents
Must obtain Hepatitis B and Rabies vaccination
Able to differentiate colors
Use of sterile techniques
Good manual dexterity
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate
Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required
Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs
Preferred
Three (3) years of experience in biology, microbiology, virology, parasitological and/or molecular biology specialization in a laboratory setting
