Responsibilities

Coordinate, install and maintain the efficient and effective functioning of the hardware, software, and network systems for a research lab/department/University
Apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a field of specialization to complete difficult assignments
Interpret and communicate information, ideas, and instructions clearly, accurately, and persuasively both verbally and in writing including materials intended for distribution
Acts as a project leader and subject matter expert for technology projects
Consults with client to assess technology needs
Develops and implements solutions to meet those needs
Makes recommendations for allocation of resources, product selection, and priorities
Manages assigned project tasks to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes
Provides regular status reports on assigned projects
Prepare documentation (procedural, planning, informational), to support non-standard unit functions and provides instruction, training, and mentors level 1 and 2 staff and non-exempt staff
Provides high-level service for existing technologies and large-scale projects, as well as high-end support for the technology needs of the dept
Work closely with vendors and technical owners of applications to securely plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new or upgraded functions
Maintain list of key support contacts for each non-standard software or hardware device
Provide training on the usage of various technologies, and other software and hardware
On-site administration and support for hardware including desktops, laptops, servers and specialty hardware for experimentation and analysis

Required

Bachelor's Degree in related field and 4 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Experienced, productive, independent contributor works independently with general supervision, and exercises judgement, and decision making within defined guidelines
Acts as a project leader and subject matter expert for technology projects
Consults with client to assess technology needs
Develops and implements solutions to meet those needs
Makes recommendations for allocation of resources, product selection, and priorities
Assignments/projects/duties of moderate scope and complexity
Manages assigned project tasks to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes
Provides regular status reports on assigned projects
Prepare documentation (procedural, planning, informational), to support non-standard unit functions and provides instruction, training, and mentors level 1 and 2 staff and non-exempt staff
Provides high-level service for existing technologies and large-scale projects, as well as high-end support for the technology needs of the dept
Work closely with vendors and technical owners of applications to securely plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new or upgraded functions

Provide training on the usage of various technologies, and other software and hardware
Working knowledge of Enterprise Linux server administration, Windows server administration, and other discipline specific applications and hardware that may include Mathematica, Matlab, LabView, ChemDraw, Origin, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or scripting languages such as Python and PERL
On-site administration and support for hardware including desktops, laptops, servers and specialty hardware for experimentation and analysis

Developed interpersonal, written, communications and organizational skills; excellent technical writing with the ability to provide application-specific documentation tailored to individual users
Working knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software, and equipment
Demonstrated team performance skills, customer service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
Ability to end users working in diverse scientific disciplines and computationally intensive environments
