UC CONTROLLER INTERN, ENDOWMENT and GENERAL ACCOUNTING TEAM

Responsibilities
Assist with the investment and general accounting operations for the Investments and General Accounting (IGA) Department. Working closely with the IGA manager and staff, supporting the collection and organization of financial data to assist accounting team in posting transactions to the UCOP accounting ledger. Review monthly cash and investment entries, learn process of organizing and reviewing data, and collaborate in preparation, posting and communication of journal entries
Attend training related to the UC accounting system and chart of accounts, work with IGA team to develop and implement projects to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. Participate in projects related to data analysis (e.g. transaction analytics, information organization and design, development of templates, etc.) to help identify trends and root causes of process inefficiencies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions, including preparation and presentations to stakeholders within UC Controller
Meet and interview with UC Controller staff inside and outside the Investments and General Accounting department (including Benefits Accounting, Financial Systems Support, Operational Excellence, Budget Planning and Analysis), training on the UC Controller structure, processes, and accounting systems, exploration of new and expanded uses of technology for communications, presentation tools and process improvement
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled student at the University of California
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
Strong writing skills, including the ability to write clear and concise emails
Ability to communicate technical information to personnel at various levels in the organization
Demonstrate interest in learning in an enterprise environment
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve
High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training
Preferred
Study/Major related to Finance/Economics/Accounting
Microsoft Excel spreadsheets – experience or interest in learning
