Postdoctoral Fellow - Infectious Disease & Infection Control-Research

Komen Graduate Training Program at UT MD Anderson is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join their Medical Mycology Research Center. The fellow will conduct preclinical research on fungal pathogenesis and participate in studies on antifungal agents, while also guiding and supervising lab technicians and students.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and perform experimental mycology research projects, including preclinical research (in vitro research, fly models, murine infection models) and processing/analysis of human biospecimens
Perform literature review to design and advance research projects, establish new assay methodology, and identify alternative approaches
Perform timely data analysis with proper interpretation of data
Prepare reports and present findings to colleagues, PI, coinvestigators, and collaborators
Attend academic conferences or meetings for oral or visual (poster) presentation of findings
Guide and supervise technicians and students to accomplish research or other laboratory duties
Write manuscripts, research proposals, and collaborate with lab members to reinforce expertise and expedite research programs
Keep updated electronic lab notebook

Qualification

Required

PhD or medical degree with prior research experience in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, or a related field
At least 2 years of lab experience in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, or a related field, with significant hands-on experience using in-vivo models
Strong communication, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

Experience with microbiological methods (e.g., fungal culture, susceptibility testing)
Advanced immunological methods (e.g., multiparameter flow cytometry)
Transcriptomics
Work with clinical biospecimens
Experience in animal models
Microbial culture
Genetic techniques
Microscopy
Evidence of independence
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate with and mentor individuals at diverse stages of their careers, including undergraduate and graduate students
