Responsibilities
Individuals in this role will receive a referral from various departments (could be social workers, case managers, authorizations) or may be a walk in patient and they are asking for assistance with insurance as they are uninsured patients
Patients may be asking to get set up with Medicare coverage or work with the Hospital Charity Care Program
Once they identify the program, this individual will help the patient apply for the program
They will go to the Medicaid portal for example and apply the individual for the program as well as going into the portal to check the status of the application
This is routine and on a daily basis, they get new patients every day
They will get patients that come from a variety of settings: inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department
Average volume of patients per day really does vary
They are looked at as the experts of Medicaid and should be able to respond to different types of requests
They will answer emails, phone calls, and walk in patients so the ability to communicate written and orally in a professional manner is important
They get requests and emails from social workers, case managers, transplant etc
Qualification
Required
Ability to communicate written and orally in a professional manner
Experience with Medicaid and insurance programs
Ability to assist patients with applying for Medicare coverage or Hospital Charity Care Program
Experience in handling patient referrals from various departments
Ability to check the status of applications in Medicaid portal
Experience in dealing with patients from inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings
