Responsibilities
Scraping thousands of municipal websites, each with different formats, rate limits, and quirks
Building systems that work consistently across unpredictable sources
Using LLMs to pull structured information—addresses, parcel numbers, approval decisions—from PDFs, Word docs, and scanned images
Doing this efficiently at thousands of documents per day
Connecting the dots when a single project appears across multiple documents over 18 months
Deduplicating, merging, and enriching data into actionable insights
Designing schemas and APIs that handle millions of projects, complex geospatial queries, and real-time updates
Building and maintaining a web platform with delightful features that can eventually support 1+ million active users
Qualification
Required
Experience with scraping data from various sources, including municipal websites
Ability to build reliable systems that handle unpredictable inputs
Experience with data extraction using AI tools
Comfortable working with messy real-world data
Experience in designing schemas and APIs for large-scale applications
Ability to connect and deduplicate data from multiple sources
Experience in building and maintaining web platforms
Familiarity with Symfony (PHP), Next.js, MySQL, and LLMs for document processing
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on hard problems at scale
Willingness to take ownership and impact as the first engineer in a startup environment
Preferred
Experience in a startup environment
Familiarity with AI tools and their application in development workflows
Ability to structure prompts and chain operations effectively
