Systems Engineer
Knorr-Bremse, through its subsidiary New York Air Brake, has been a leader in the heavy-haul railroad industry since 1890. The Systems Engineer will collaborate on the design, development, analysis, and testing of software-based systems, while also providing maintenance support and developing requirements for energy management and train control systems.

Responsibilities
Provide maintenance support for existing products
Develop requirements for the design of energy management/train control systems
Develop interface control documents
Prepare technical proposals, including clause-by-clause comments to customer specifications
Prepare systems documentation, including requirement specifications, schematics, etc
Perform system integration
Prepare system-level Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
Assist with the development of verification and validation test procedures
Assist with the preparation and delivery of technical presentations to customers in support of sales
Troubleshoot complex system problems and identify root causes / corrective actions
Perform and participate in design reviews
Prepare detailed design documentation
Adhere to all NYAB development processes
Interface with other departments, as necessary
Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies
Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations
Must understand, support, and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures, and instructions
Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required
Data Analysis experience using Excel, MATLAB, Python, C, C++, etc
Basic understanding of Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Electrical Systems
Experience with software-based control systems
Critical thinking skills
Use of the Standard Microsoft Office Suite for communication and documentation
Preferred
Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field required
6+ years of directly relevant experience
Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle
Familiarity/Experience with Control Topologies
Proficient use of Unix/Linux-like environments
Experience with C/C++ development
Experience in Rail or transportation systems software development strongly preferred
Development for safety-rated systems (SIL)
Scrum development methodologies
Development using System Modelling Tools (SysML, UML)
