HR Business Partner (Employee Relations & Compliance)

BD&J is California’s leading personal injury law firm, having recovered over $2 billion for our clients. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on HR Business Partner (HRBP) to drive employee relations and compliance initiatives that foster a positive, high-performing, and legally sound workplace.

Responsibilities

Serve as a trusted advisor to department leaders, providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, and organizational effectiveness
Partner with managers to address workplace concerns, mediate conflicts, and facilitate resolutions that balance firm needs with employee engagement
Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including California labor laws, and ensure HR policies are consistently applied
Collaborate with leadership to identify talent gaps, provide guidance on recruitment and retention strategies, and support succession planning initiatives
Assist in disciplinary actions and coaching managers to effectively handle employee development and performance issues
Contribute to HR initiatives, including employee engagement programs, training sessions, and professional development opportunities, in collaboration with broader HR team
Act as a point of contact for employee questions, ensuring timely and accurate HR support
Partner with leadership to assess training needs and implement scalable learning solutions that align with firm goals and enhance organizational performance

Required

5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in an HR business partner or generalist role
Strong expertise in employee relations, HR compliance, and learning & development
Familiarity with California employment law and HR best practices
High emotional intelligence, strong judgment, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field

Preferred

HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred
Experience in a legal or professional services environment is a plus
