Responsibilities
Manage special education law cases independently, from intake through resolution
Prepare and present cases at administrative hearings with minimal supervision
Draft and file pleadings, motions, and written submissions in education matters
Communicate regularly with clients, explaining strategy, risks, and next steps
Build hearing records through evidence organization, witness preparation, and case theory
Conduct appellate advocacy at the SRO level and assist with federal appeals where needed
Pursue recovery of attorneys’ fees in federal court
Track deadlines, maintain organized case files, and manage multiple matters efficiently
Collaborate with colleagues when needed while maintaining ownership of assigned cases
Qualification
Required
5+ years of experience practicing special education law in NYC
Demonstrated experience managing a caseload independently
Proven ability to represent clients at hearings (minimal supervision)
Strong writing skills for administrative and appellate submissions
Admission to the New York State Bar (NY Bar required)
Preferred
Experience with SRO appeals and federal-level education litigation
Experience with attorneys' fee recovery actions in federal court
Strong comfort advising clients in sensitive, high-stakes situations
Prior experience handling multiple matters with competing deadlines
