Tax Settlement Officer

Macomb County Government is seeking a Tax Settlement Officer to oversee the purchases of prior year tax delinquencies from Cities and Townships in Macomb County. The role involves managing county revenue collections, submitting taxable adjustments to the State, and collaborating with local municipalities' Treasurer’s departments.

Responsibilities

Enters revenue of County, Drain, Huron Clinton Metro Authority, SMART, ZOO, DIA, and State Education taxes into the County’s accounts, along with taxable value changes
Settles prior year delinquent taxes from Cities and Township when balanced
Remits monies collected to the State, DIA, HCMA, SMART, and ZOO every 15 days
Submits taxable value adjustments to the State of Michigan in May, September, and October
Reconciles the base tax accounts between BS&A and Workday
Purchases additional board of reviews, Michigan tax tribunals, State tax commissions, uncapping, and denials
Prepares chargeback letters and invoices on properties not deemed collectable
Meets and collaborates with local municipalities Treasurer’s departments
Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions
Performs related work as required

Required

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a directly related field
Five (5) years of work experience in property taxes, utilizing BS&A software
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Collection and processing of county taxes
Excel, Word, Workday, Sympro, and BS&A software applications
Tax types and distributions
Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
Effective organization and time management
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
Utilize multiple reports and formulas
Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
Work in an environment which embraces the county's Dignity Campaign
Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
Conduct oneself with tact and courtesy

Preferred

Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English
