Responsibilities

Develops the contract strategy, formulates a clear vision and articulates steps to achieve the negotiation objectives
The individual must work closely with member IDNs and facilities to develop a strategy that aligns with member needs/requirements, and meets objectives of the group-purchasing organization
Strategies must contemplate a variety of complex considerations
The Contract Director must develop a strategy that manages and hedges risk achieving the desired outcome
The Contract Director must be adept at reading situations and adapting strategies or negotiations as necessary throughout the sourcing process
Thorough understanding and accountability for the sourcing process for energy, including market research, bid preparation, Strategy Development and Validation, RFP, Contract Negotiations, and contract awards
Identify and qualify potential suppliers
Negotiate energy purchasing agreements
Regional Category Analysis
RFP/Strategy Development
Supplier negotiations/award
Drive member alignment and consensus
Direct finance and support activities
Ensure proper documentation
In addition to basic supplier relationship management, the Contract Director strategically fosters excellent working relationship with key suppliers, including the negotiation of Purchasing Agreements with supplier
Communicate effectively and efficiently with internal and external resources:
Presenting contract strategies and reporting outcomes to various stakeholders is an integral function of this position, requiring polished skills and interfacing with various levels of member executives
Communicate negotiation status and results
Audiences include but are not limited to: board leads, legal, account management and members
Communicate bid process, negotiation status, and agreement on terms, financial proposal concerns and other matters with supplier
Collaboration required with functional team throughout sourcing process:
With legal staff on development and finalization of purchasing agreements
With financial analysts on assessing supplier proposals
With board leads on meeting with advisory boards
With account management in their member-facing duties related to the portfolio
Meet or exceed financial and operational goals established in the annual contracting plan
Maintain timely achievement of all assigned sourcing initiatives ensuring activities adhere to all established policies and procedures and standards of business conduct
Resolve supplier and/or customer issues
Maintain strong customer relationships and build trust and respect by consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations
Work with HealthTrust audit team to assist and facilitate engagement and finalization of audit projects
Act as a champion for business process change, organizational change, and cultural change

Required

Accredited College Bachelor's Degree required in engineering, business or finance with advanced degree desirable
5 to 10 years of relevant work experience. Ideal candidate will have experience in strategic sourcing and negotiating a variety of contracts in either energy or other aligned commodity categories, with preferred experience with sustainability categories
Relevant work experience includes, but is not limited to: Energy commodity trading; Natural gas or electric utility; Energy marketing; Facility management; Sustainability Solutions; Contracting financial analysis; Commodity risk management; Regulation of utility service
Understanding or demonstrated ability to learn in-depth aspects of portfolio: fundamental and technical market dynamics, pricing comparisons between supplier offerings, electric grid and gas pipeline networks and capacity markets, CFAB contract portfolio offerings which support holistic energy management solutions, federal and state regulatory issues which impact energy services and costs, knowledge of natural gas and electric contract language and negotiation strategies, understanding of cost drivers (direct and indirect), understanding of facility operations
Individual must know and be able to use knowledge about supplier to develop strategies, create leverage, mitigate risks, and anticipate direction of the market and potential supplier direction. Includes, but not limited to: interpretation of Supplier SEC filings, annual reports, or analyst reports, discussion of future resource, capacity availability and product pipelines with suppliers and customers, occasional site-visits to supplier/provider to review current or future technology, investigation of new supplier entrants to market
