Specialist in Poison Information
University of Utah Health Research is seeking a Specialist in Poison Information. The role involves providing assessment, case management advice, and follow-up care for emergency and instructional calls received by the Utah Poison Control Center, as well as precepting students and delivering lectures in the College of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities
Provides verbal and written clinical toxicology consultation in response to emergency and informational telephone calls and completes documentation in computerized medical record system
Investigates case history, researches medical literature and consults appropriate sources to provide informed and proper treatment and triage recommendations and develops protocols that are medically and economically appropriate
Precepts PharmD students, Pharmacy Practice residents, emergency medicine residents and fellows
Prepares and delivers lectures on poisoning topics to internal and external audiences as needed
Participates in other outreach education activities, quality assurance activities and on-going clinical research projects as needed
Prepares information for and attends in-service sessions and staff meetings as needed
Qualification
Required
Licensure as a Pharmacist
Current national certification as a Specialist in Poison Information or the ability to obtain the certification within 2 exam cycles
Knowledge of human pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology and drug information
Demonstrated human relation, organization and effective communication skills
Eligibility for the exam requires licensure as a Pharmacist or Registered Nurse, working 2000 hours in a Poison Information Center and fielding 2000 poison exposure calls
Certification must be renewed every seven years
Must fulfill all associated requirements for patient-sensitive position
Must be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy
Demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description
Preferred
Ability to obtain Utah pharmacist licensure within 4 months of hire
Ability to obtain national SPI certification within 2 exam cycles or become ABAT diplomat
