Volunteer and Outreach Supervisor

Responsibilities

Actively recruit new volunteers and promote volunteer opportunities for The Bird Rescue Center
Plan and conduct New Volunteer Orientations across all program areas
Work with department heads to maintain and enhance volunteer training materials
Responsible for accurate data entry and upkeep of all volunteer records, including database
Oversee volunteer schedules and assignments
Work with leadership team to develop new volunteer opportunities to further BRC’s mission
Ensure BRC volunteers meet continued education requirements by governing bodies
Partner with leadership and department heads to coordinate volunteer email communications, including monthly newsletters
Support a positive, inclusive, and well-communicated volunteer culture
Develop recognition and retention programs, including assisting with annual volunteer appreciation event
Schedule and coordinate all outreach activities, including center tours, off-site presentations, and tabling events
Train and mentor volunteers to communicate the work of The Bird Rescue Center in the community
Collaborate with the Avian Care Raptor Supervisor to ensure proper Ambassador selection
Recruit, schedule, and ensure volunteers have necessary materials for events
Maintain organized outreach materials, signage, merchandise, and program handouts
Track participation, attendance, and other metrics for program reporting
Fill in at onsite and off-site events as needed
Assist with volunteer communications, including email updates and event reminders
Share photos, stories, and program highlights with the Communications team for newsletters and social media
Collect participant feedback and summarize evaluations; recommend program improvements based on insights
Track and report revenue generated from outreach events to grow a financially sustainable program

Required

Minimum 1-2 years' experience leading or managing volunteers and volunteer programs
1-2 years' experience in nonprofit outreach, volunteer coordination, or public programming (e.g., zoo, museum, environmental education, camp)
Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences of all ages in both formal and informal settings
Proficiency with varied computer systems and calendars
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable handling or being near live animals
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lift 30 lbs and work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings

Preferred

Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Background in environmental science, wildlife education, or a related field
Experience with raptors or wildlife
Experience working with Bloomerang database or other volunteer databases
