Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain complex SQL Server-based infrastructure and database solutions
Monitor system health, track performance metrics, and configure alerts for critical events
Respond promptly to database-related incidents, investigate root causes, and implement preventive measures
Conduct performance tuning and optimization
Analyze complex queries and execution plans to maintain indices for optimal performance
Plan and implement a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategy
Execute migration plans with minimal downtime and validate data integrity afterward
Develop procedures, documentation, and training for system management, backup/recovery, and other maintenance tasks
Document and provide knowledge transfer of all current and new SQL Server clusters, instances, and databases to WVOT employees
Develop and maintain T-SQL and PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks such as backups, index maintenance, and database monitoring
Use tools like SQL Server Integration Services, Azure Data Factories, Kingsway Soft, and Biztalk to migrate and transform data through complex ETL
Provide analytics on system health and growth capacity, and use tools like SSRS, Power BI, and Google Looker Studio for internal and customer reporting
Develop and ensure the proper functioning of databases, data-driven applications, and reports
Build database schemas, tables, procedures, and permission sets
Aid in development of complex business applications using ASP.NET, Adobe ColdFusion, or Power Platform on a project team
Completes other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are required
Travel to various State Agencies to perform work and maintain accurate mileage records
Regular attendance is an essential part of this position
Successful completion of an Associate Degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college, university or business school
Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in database administration and management work, with Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi-user database management on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms OR eight years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in programming and analysis work using any of a variety of programming languages, including at least four years of SQL experience and a variety of data storage techniques
As a condition of employment, an inquiry into job-related information will be completed which may include, but not limited to, criminal records, abuse registry records, driving records, employment history, and education and training
Preferred
Two years of experience as a Database Administrator for Universal DB2, ORACLE, INFORMIX, SQL Server, SYBASE or any other multi-user database management system on mainframe, mini, or client/server platforms may substitute for the required training
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field may be substituted for the training and two years of the experience
