Utilities Technician

NEOGOV is seeking a Utilities Technician to function independently as a Field Inspector within the Sewer Maintenance Division. The role involves evaluating the condition of sanitary sewer and water main easements, conducting visual inspections, documenting observations, and generating work orders to address discrepancies.

Responsibilities

Performs semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance supporting City department(s) or maintenance function. Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks and works following established safety policies, procedures, applicable codes, and regulations
Works independently with full responsibility for completion of daily job tasks
Operates and maintains assigned vehicle and tools; performs inspections to ensure safe operating conditions. Performs routine repairs and/or replacement of parts, cleaning and preventative maintenance, and monitors need for replacement or advanced repairs
Plans, monitors and reviews inventory, resources and materials needs. Initiates orders for resources based on requirements, and may work with contract workers and trade specialists by scheduling and coordinating repairs and maintenance services
Assists with setup/teardown of traffic control work zones and various safety equipment including trench boxes, hydraulic shoring, and confined space equipment
Completes various tasks such as locating and marking sewer structures, opening manholes, walking long distances through wooded areas, traversing uneven terrain, manual cutting of underbrush and vegetation, data collection and entry, map reading, and assistance with other Division Programs
Provides support to the City’s emergency response in the event of inclement weather, to include support for debris cleanup after severe storms or snow and ice response for Division facilities

Required

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
1 to 3 years' experience in water/wastewater infrastructure inspection, maintenance/repair, or related work
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred

National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) pipeline and manhole assessment standard certification preferred
