Survey Technician

Kelchner, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to assist the Survey Manager and other team members in providing support for heavy construction projects. The role involves performing physical labor, setting up GPS equipment, conducting topographic surveys, and ensuring the accuracy of machine grade control equipment.

Construction

Responsibilities

Sets up GPS base post and localizes the project site
Performs an initial topographic survey of the entire project prior to any excavation or stripping
Performs additional topographic surveys on a periodic basis as directed by the Survey Manager
Sets up GPS base station, rover, and heavy equipment machines for the dirt project and loads all necessary files
Checks into control points to verify the localization periodically or daily if needed
Checks the elevations and grades of the cutting edge of the blades on all machines that are using Machine Grade Control GPS
Checks calibration of all GPS machines periodically or daily and recalibrates when necessary
Sets grade stakes if required by the Mass Excavation Foreman and/or the Regional Survey Manager
Lays out utilities as instructed by the Pipe Foreman and/or Survey Manager
Works with Dirt Foreman and operators to ensure the accuracy of the machine grade control equipment and programming. Makes adjustments as necessary
Works with Dirt Foreman and operators to ensure that the machine grade control equipment is used and is used correctly
Performs all responsibilities in accordance with Kelchner’s standard operating procedures

Required

High School or GED required
The ability to work 55 – 60 hours a week including Saturdays
May be required to drive a company vehicle; therefore, will need a valid Driver's License with the ability to be insured by the company's insurance
Understands and follows oral and written instructions
Works independently in the absence of supervision
Knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, and Excel
Ability to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods
Must be able to handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis
Ability to talk and see well to distinguish between back up alarms, voices, and other normal sounds consistent with construction job sites
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Preferred

Additional college or trade school preferred
Proficient with AccuGrade, Earthworks, Trimble, and Topcon software preferred but not required
