Payroll Specialist

California Bioenergy LLC is one of the nation’s leading developers of dairy digester projects. They are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage full-cycle payroll for employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.

Responsibilities

Process full-cycle payroll on a bi-weekly and bi-monthly basis for multi-state employees
Maintain payroll records, manage employee changes, and ensure data accuracy
Handle tax withholdings, deductions, garnishments, and benefit adjustments
Ensure compliance with all state and federal payroll and tax regulations (especially CA, TX, SD)
Prepare and reconcile payroll reports and audits
Serve as the main contact for payroll-related questions from employees
Partner with HR Team to support onboarding, offboarding, and reporting needs
Maintain confidentiality and uphold company standards of professionalism

Required

A bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related discipline, or possession of a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
Minimum 5 years of payroll experience, with hands-on ADP expertise (Workforce Now or similar)
Proven experience managing multi-state payroll (CA, TX, SD required)
Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax filings, and compliance
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools
Confidentiality: High level of discretion is expected due to access to sensitive employee information

Preferred

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
Experience in energy, or multi-entity environments preferred
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
