Connected Assets Engineer
BravoTECH is seeking a Connected Assets Engineer for a 6-month contract to hire. The role involves investigating equipment connectivity, executing connections to systems like Kepware, and documenting processes while coordinating with site and network teams.
Responsibilities
Must be an analytical thinker and be willing to research unknown equipment and connectivity patterns
Timeliness and flexibility with schedule to accommodate the customer are both a must
Manufacturing floor experience
Able to work independently and be self-motivated
IIOT connectivity experience in some manner (Kepware, MES, PLC, machine controllers, Ignition, Etc.)
Understanding of the broad view of manufacturing in relation to connecting the various systems
Basic knowledge of networking concepts at a minimum
This is our opportunity to build a relationship with the site outside of just the program team
This is more of an investigative trip to document the equipment at a site and collect the information needed to determine the connectivity path
We verify any information entered into the machine survey by the plant and fill in any missing information
For each piece of equipment, we look at things such as:
How the equipment is controlled, PC or PLC or Controller
Can we connect directly to the equipment or is additional hardware required such as machine switch or NAT device
Does the equipment have a network drop available
Is there an SME for the piece the piece of equipment
We document the switch stack names for the network team and verify switch capacity
Following the pre-assessment, we participate in a tech review with the customer where we discuss the best path for connectivity on each piece of equipment based on our findings while on site
This is the return trip where we go onboard equipment to the new factory segmented network and then establish connections from those machines to Kepware
These trips require coordination between us, the site team, the network team, and occasionally vendors
Possible technical tasks could include:
Patching in a drop
Configuring a NAT device or IO device
Configuring IP Address and relevant network items on equipment
Full configuration of Kepware channels and devices based on standard formats that have been provided by the customer
Maintain up to date playbook status and comments throughout the week
Create SNOW tickets for any outstanding action items that cannot be completed during the execution week
There are a few documentation activities we are responsible for
We create the playbook for each execution. It is the schedule for the week along with a few additional pieces of information for each machine
We document the implementation steps for the selected connectivity path on each machine type. This is a machine side high level work instruction
We create guidebooks or work instructions for how to make the connection to Kepware. This is low level work instruction for configuring Kepware
We document the information needed to submit an FSR to the customer
Potential for basic report outs and other minor documentation
Overall travel tends to be around 30% for the year
Domestic Travel- 1-week duration
International Travel- 2-week duration
