Responsibilities
Coordinate the editorial production of multilingual projects, in close coordination with the English and Spanish Publication Specialists, from initial layout until delivery of final files
Establish realistic production schedules and ensure tight deadlines are met while maintaining high quality standards
Follow closely the implementation of publishing plans to ensure the final stages of production are smooth; identify barriers to implementation; and present solutions to problems in advance
Ensure timely communication of any problems affecting budget or deadlines
Support the Publications Team in updating and improving production workflows, including recommendations on new practices and technologies and accessibility standards
Be the focal point for typesetters. Provide clear indications, discuss solutions for layout problems, and ensure correct implementation of PAHO’s brand and design specifications
Coordinate proofreaders during production stages, providing indications and solving queries when needed, in coordination with editors
Check the quality of final print and digital files before publication
Support the identification and vetting of external editorial providers for typesetting, file conversion, eBook production (interactive PDFs, ePub, Mobi), and other digital formats
Contribute to the improvement of internal workflows for the delivery of publishing plans
Assist with any other duties as required
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in communications, publishing, graphic design, or in any other field related to the functions of the post from a recognized university
At least 7 years of combined national and international experience in the fields of publishing, editorial, or communications
Fluent in written and spoken English or Spanish
Strong organizational and project management skills with excellent attention to detail
In depth experience of the publications process, from feasibility assessment of publication projects to costing, layout, design, proofreading and printing
Good contacts in the publishing industry, including project managers, designers, proofreaders and editors
Good knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Adobe, as well as Excel, Power Point, and Word
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a diverse, team-oriented environment
Experience working in multicultural environments
Preferred
Master's degree in communications, publishing, graphic design or any other field related to the functions of the post from a recognized university
Experience working in the field of public health
Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese and French
