Environmental Services Operations Coordinator
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development is seeking an Environmental Services Operations Coordinator for the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. This role involves overseeing daily operations of the Environmental Services Department, ensuring compliance with health standards, and managing staffing and training for the EVS team.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Supervises a 24/7 Environmental Services team delivering essential hospital services
Conducts and documents regular staff supervision, coaching, and performance evaluations
Manages and participates in personnel matters in collaboration with departmental leadership
Leads new‑hire orientation, ongoing training, and annual in‑service programs
Coordinates vacation schedules and reviews time‑off requests to ensure adequate coverage
Oversees EVS‑related contracted services, including pest management, hazardous waste removal, landscaping, and laundry
Performs routine inspections to ensure compliance with JC, CMS, DLS, and Infection Control standards
Initiates maintenance work requests based on facility observations and needs
Partners with Infection Control to establish and maintain regulatory cleanliness standards
Supports supervisors and shift leaders with daily scheduling, project coordination, and emergency response activities
Works with Human Resources to fill positions in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and hiring protocols
Provides departmental orientation on MSDS, approved cleaning agents, PPE, safety procedures, and attendance expectations
Maintains and updates EVS departmental policies and procedures
Reviews and responds to incident reports and quality management findings
Coordinates departmental quality improvement initiatives and participates in cross‑departmental programs
Contributes to the departmental budgeting process and promotes cost‑effective operations
Coordinates capital equipment purchasing for the EVS department
Participates in committees such as Infection Control, Product Review, and Physical Environment
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of work‑simplification techniques and standard methods for preparing charts, graphs, tables, and written reports
Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, make recommendations, and determine appropriate formats for presenting information
Skilled in gathering information through document review and interviews, and in maintaining accurate, well‑organized records
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, follow instructions, and provide precise guidance to others
Demonstrated supervisory ability, including planning and assigning work, evaluating performance, identifying training needs, and motivating staff
Ability to build rapport, maintain effective working relationships, and interact tactfully with colleagues at all levels
Capacity to adapt to changing situations, respond to emergencies, and exercise sound judgment and discretion, especially with confidential information
Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques, and the ability to coordinate team efforts to achieve departmental goals
Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below
No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience
Preferred
Understands the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities
Possesses knowledge of the organizational structure and functions of the assigned agency
Recognizes the types and uses of agency forms
Applies state procedures for purchasing and requisitioning supplies and equipment
Navigates state budgetary procedures related to staffing and positions
