Compliance Director

Responsibilities
Design and own PayJoy’s global compliance framework, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, and control standards, ensuring consistent application across all jurisdictions while accommodating local regulatory requirements
Establish and oversee independent compliance monitoring and testing programs, including issue identification, remediation tracking, and reporting, to proactively identify and mitigate regulatory and operational risk
Serve as the primary compliance partner to the executive team, embedding compliance considerations into business processes, product development, and market expansion initiatives
Lead regulatory engagement and examination readiness, including coordination of audits, regulatory inquiries, partner due diligence, and ongoing supervisory interactions, ensuring clear documentation and defensible compliance practices
Develop global compliance governance, reporting, and escalation structures, including senior management and committee reporting, to support informed decision-making and accountability across the organization
Build and scale the compliance function over time, including defining resourcing needs, leveraging external advisors, and developing internal talent to support PayJoy’s growth and increasing regulatory complexity
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Laws degree and Master's degree in commerce, Business Administration, Management, Law or related field
10+ years of progressive compliance experience within fintech, financial services, payments, lending, or other highly regulated environments, with demonstrated responsibility for enterprise or multi-jurisdictional compliance programs
Proven experience designing, implementing, and scaling compliance frameworks from the ground up, including policies and procedures, risk assessments, monitoring and testing, issue management, and regulatory change management
Deep working knowledge of global regulatory regimes relevant to PayJoy's business model, including consumer protection, AML/KYC, data privacy, and licensing requirements across multiple jurisdictions
Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior individual contributor and strategic advisor, with credibility to influence executive stakeholders and cross-functional partners without relying on formal authority
Experience leading regulatory examinations, audits, and third-party diligence, including ownership of regulator communications, documentation readiness, and remediation planning
Strong governance and reporting capabilities, including the ability to develop compliance metrics, dashboards, and executive-level reporting to support informed decision-making and risk oversight
