Postdoctoral Appointee – Vehicle Technology Assessment

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle modelling and simulation of advanced powertrains to quantify the impacts of new component technologies, control algorithms and powertrain architectures with focus on advanced technologies
Assist on projects to benchmark next generation vehicle systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and/or analyze their impacts at individual, regional and national level
Develop new ideas into projects under the supervision of more experienced researchers
Current project opportunities include quantifying the impact of advanced vehicle technologies applicable to light duty, medium duty and heavy-duty vehicles, hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell powertrain design, development of supervisory control logic, validation of vehicle models against test data etc
Communicate results through well-designed presentations, publish journal articles and reports, and present results at conferences, workshops, and project meetings

Required

Recent or soon-to-be-completed (typically completed within the last 0-5 years) Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering
Two or more years of experience with electrified powertrain (e.g., hybrid, battery electric or fuel cell) system modeling and simulation
Demonstrated accomplishments in vehicle energy consumption assessment
Proficiency in simulation tools used in analyzing vehicle energy consumption
A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork
Experience in data-driven modeling and analysis
Demonstrated ability to perform vehicle modelling and simulation as well as techno-economic analysis and writing scientific publications
Familiarity with a wide range of tools and techniques relevant for vehicle modelling and simulation analysis, with expertise in Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow and preferably Autonomie
Well-developed problem-solving, systems thinking, quantitative, and critical thinking skills; intellectual curiosity
Able to structure and formulate solutions to complex problems
Highly motivated and detail oriented with the ability to work independently and in close collaboration with team members
Skilled written and verbal communicator, including the ability to present complex information so that it is understandable to a broad audience
Computer skills relevant for data manipulation and analysis including experience with creating and using complex models in Simulink & scripting in Matlab, Python, R
This position requires an on-site presence at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois
