Director of Production Services
Millwork Recruiting Source LLC is seeking a Director of Production Services to lead and optimize the Production Services organization for a high-end retail décor contractor serving the premium grocery sector. This role involves overseeing engineering, project management, and fabrication while ensuring exceptional client experiences and financial performance.
Responsibilities
Lead all Production Services functions including Engineering & Production Drawings, Estimating, Project Management, Purchasing & Logistics, Fabrication, Installation, and Close-Out/Job Cost Analysis
Serve as a strategic partner to ownership, contributing to operational planning, continuous improvement, and business growth initiatives
Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable leadership culture across all departments
Establish scalable workflows and operating systems that ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to exacting quality standards
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives that benefit both clients and the organization without compromising quality
Ensure exceptional client experiences through professional execution, clear communication, and consistent delivery
Maintain strong working relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure alignment across all project phases
Recognize and pursue additional project opportunities with existing clients in collaboration with ownership
Own Production Services revenue, profitability, and margin performance
Oversee Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), operating expenses, and financial controls across Production Services
Provide oversight of Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) related to production activities
Ensure estimating processes and pricing strategies align with project scope, client budgets, and company margin objectives
Oversee estimating and proposal development processes, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability
Develop and refine estimating systems and best practices for consistent, scalable performance
Support and mentor Project Managers in execution, scheduling, coordination, and client communication
Ensure seamless handoffs between estimating, engineering, fabrication, and installation teams
Maintain and optimize an appropriately sized in-house fabrication operation to support select custom projects
Evaluate and recommend industry innovations that improve safety, efficiency, quality, and profitability
Maintain shop safety standards, training programs, and compliance
Develop a client-facing R&D/prototype workspace or showroom for sampling and innovation
Lead the strategy to outsource the majority of manufacturing to qualified fabrication and millwork partners
Identify, qualify, and develop multiple outsource partners across millwork, signage, décor, architectural finishes, and furniture/seating
Negotiate pricing structures that meet margin goals while maintaining competitive quality and lead times
Maintain strong relationships and clear communication with partners to ensure on-time delivery and quality compliance
Maintain an appropriately sized and skilled in-house installation team
Develop and manage a network of outsourced installation partners to support project volume
Oversee installation coordination, scheduling, and field execution in partnership with Project Managers
Ensure quality installations through site reviews, reporting, and corrective action when needed
Establish and enforce best practices for installation methods, safety standards, and training
Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing Production Services leadership and staff team
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
Promote professional development, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration
Qualification
Required
Proven leadership experience in custom manufacturing, millwork, specialty fabrication, or retail décor environments
Strong understanding of the grocery or retail sector from a business and operational perspective
Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, margins, and operational costs
Experience managing outsourced manufacturing and installation partners
Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams across engineering, production, and project management
Preferred
Background in environmental graphics, signage, retail décor, fixtures, or architectural finishes beyond traditional millwork
Experience supporting high-volume, fast-paced retail rollout programs
Executive-level experience partnering directly with ownership
