Postdoctoral Scholar - Surgery/Colorectal Surgery
Penn State University is seeking a full-time Post Doctoral Scholar in the Department of Surgery, Division of Colorectal Surgery. The role involves conducting research on inflammatory bowel disease and includes responsibilities such as immunohistochemical analysis, developing organoid cultures, and mentoring graduate students.

Immunohistochemical analysis of human intestinal tissue segments
Establishing and maintaining 3D intestinal epithelial organoid cultures
Developing differentiated human intestinal monolayer systems derived from organoid cultures as an experimental modality
Detailed analysis of epithelial monolayers using confocal microscopy
Propagation of bacteria and probiotics to assess integrity of epithelial barrier
Developing hypotheses, writing manuscripts and grant proposals, presenting research both on campus and at national/international conferences
Providing mentorship to graduate students and staff in the lab
Qualification
Required
PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related field
Demonstrated interest in inflammatory bowel disease research
Immunohistochemical analysis of human intestinal tissue segments
Establishing and maintaining 3D intestinal epithelial organoid cultures
Developing differentiated human intestinal monolayer systems derived from organoid cultures as an experimental modality
Detailed analysis of epithelial monolayers using confocal microscopy
