Franklin News Foundation is seeking skilled and dependable Contract Camera Operators to support their video coverage of legislative hearings and state government events in Springfield, Illinois. The role involves operating professional video and audio equipment to capture high-quality footage, collaborating with producers, and adhering to production timelines.
Responsibilities
Operate professional video and audio equipment to capture high-quality footage of live legislative hearings, press conferences, and related events
Set up and break down equipment in designated hearing rooms and venues within the Capitol complex
Work closely with producers and technical staff to ensure seamless video coverage and live streaming
Follow production timelines, event schedules, and quality standards with precision
Qualification
Required
Experience as a camera operator, especially in live, field, or news/broadcast environments
Proficiency with professional camera gear, audio tools, and streaming workflows
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow technical instructions and adapt to varying environments
Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
Must be located in or able to travel to Springfield, IL
Availability to work scheduled shifts primarily during the legislative session (January through May), with some events possible outside that window
Preferred
Prior experience covering government or public affairs
Familiarity with the structure and proceedings of the Illinois General Assembly
Ownership of professional equipment (optional; equipment can be provided)
