Responsibilities
Coordinates unit operations for assigned shift, subject to the review of the department Director/Manager, including scheduling, assignments, monitoring of department activities, and coordination among other departments to ensure effectiveness of operations and the delivery of quality care
Supervises patient care delegated to others. Assures that delegated tasks are carried out safely, effectively and in a timely manner; coordinates care provided by self, nursing staff and other disciplines
Assures procedures and treatments are completed per physician orders and department protocols in a timely manner and accurately and legibly documents care and treatment
Monitors work performance of shift personnel and communicates pertinent information to Manager/Director
Demonstrates leadership skills through effective planning, time management, teamwork, and delegation of patient care activities to unit staff and resource utilization
Assumes responsibility for new staff orientation and serves as a clinical resource, patient advocate and role model for staff
Makes rounds to monitor the quality of exams performed, participates in Performance Improvement activities
Provides for self-development by attending and participating in, as a member or chairperson, unit/shift/department/hospital committees or group meetings as appointed or assigned. Attends appropriate professional conferences and/or professional association meetings
Assesses learning needs of the staff based on each individual's experience, level of expertise, and expected level of performance
Accurately (including the use of the computer) reviews and/or completes physician orders
