Responsibilities
Intern Project: LLM based expert system for Powell electrical switchgear
Expected Deliverables: Prototype Large Language Model (LLM) system using Powell technical library to support technical queries related to the application and certification of Powell electrical switchgear. This system would be used by members of the R&D team to answer technical questions raised by the wider business
How does this project benefit Powell or your functional area? Everyday R&D team members are asked to function as SME’s within the wider business to support the application of Powell’s switchgear. In resolving each query, the first step is the identification of the SME for the product in question who then often refers to internal documentation to respond to the query. Through the application of an LLM, initially seeded with internal documentation and subsequent queries & responses, the ability of multiple people to function as the SME will enable an improved level of service when supporting the wider business
Qualification
Required
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution
Rising Junior or Senior continuing studies in Fall 2027
Minimum 3.0 GPA and strong academic standing
Team player with strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills
Self-starter with a dependable, can-do attitude
Preferred
Experience with CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
