Assistant Director of Development, Athletics
The Ohio State University is seeking an Assistant Director of Development for its Athletics department. This role involves building relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support and managing a portfolio of donors to secure gifts for the university.

Responsibilities
Understand the mission, needs and value proposition of the university and the Department of Athletics and build relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support
Identify donors such as alumni, friends, and/or grateful patients by listening for opportunities to align their interests and passions with opportunities to donate to the university
Actively manage a portfolio of prospective donors to be asked for gifts of up to $99,000 and to build a pipeline of major gift donors for the future
Prepare for the 'ask' by creatively and strategically utilizing resources to determine the prospective donor's capacity for giving, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement and obtain a gift
Be guided by annual metrics such as number of monthly meetings, number of gift commitments, and dollars raised
Utilize central resources such as a robust donor database, and reporting and analytics tools to achieve goals
Report to the Director of Development and operate with a high degree of independence to make decisions, solve problems, negotiate and adapt to shifting priorities
Maintain stellar communications and interactions with constituents and frequent collaboration with colleagues across the college, Advancement and the university and Wexner Medical Center
Demonstrate diplomacy and discretion, and be a curious person who is not afraid to pick up the phone and be entrepreneurial
Travel frequently during the workweek including approximately one or two overnight trips per month, regular in-state travel and occasional evening and weekend work
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
At least two (2) years of professional fundraising experience or professional transferable experience (i.e. managing relationships with required measurable output, making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client relationship or sales-related activities)
Preferred
Four (4) years of professional fundraising experience raising the highest level of philanthropic gifts at an organization (preferably five or six figures and above)
Four (4) years of professional fundraising experience in higher education or a hospital/health care environment
Experience working in other advancement departments such as donor relations and stewardship, donor communications and/or alumni relations
Familiarity with the development function at Ohio State and knowledge of Ohio State's donor database (TAS)
