Engineering Intern, CableTechSupport

Southwire Company, LLC is one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers, and they are seeking an Engineering Intern to support their CableTechSupport™ Engineering team. The intern will perform engineering calculations, assist with automation and workflow improvements, and contribute to the development and testing of emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work
You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves
You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and community service /volunteer initiatives
You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to a world-class program community
Finally, our rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities
Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings to support engineering projects and process improvements
Assist with the design, development, and testing of new or modified internal calculators
Perform Electrical and Mechanical Modeling and Calculations for Wire & Cable Products Designsed for Commercial, Power/Utility, and Industrial Applications
Manage Engineering Data including Customer Specifications and Spec Review Records to Deploy an AI-Enabled Spec Review Tool
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results

Required

Minimum 2.5 GPA
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
Reliable transportation to and from work
Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Working knowledge of basic electrical engineering concepts (ampacity, cable properties)
Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and within a team

Preferred

Knowledge in Python and Django is desirable
