Responsibilities

Responsible for understanding and applying federal, state, and university regulations for the ethical conduct of research engaging human subjects
Process initial protocol submissions, renewals, and modifications for exempt and expedited reviews
Screen and review IRB protocol applications for accuracy, clarity, validity, and completeness
Communicate review stipulations to research team and work with investigators in applying regulations to safeguard the rights and welfare of research participants
Serve as a subject matter expert for inquiries from campus faculty, staff, and students regarding the IRB policy and procedure, and for IRB protocol preparation. Subject matter expertise includes knowledge of human research ethical foundations, federal and state regulations and requirements for human subject research
Identify areas of needed business improvement to reduce investigator and administrative burden
Support in planning IRB meetings and meetings with research teams
Inform IRB of HRPP activities and provide supportive documentation, as necessary
Keep spreadsheets with data stored in IRB database, SharePoint, and future electronic tracking databases
Make presentations to the research community on campus on human subject research matters
Compose correspondence from HRPP to research community via IRB list serve
Other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree required in the humanities, social sciences, or scientific field
Minimum one-two years of with human subject research administration and compliance
Experience working within a research extensive, University environment
Proven knowledge to interpret University, state, and federal regulations and policies as they pertain to human subject research
Demonstrated ability to perform effectively, both independently and as a team member, with a professional demeanor in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of multiple and change priorities, under minimal supervision
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Organizational skills that involve juggling multiple responsibilities, prioritizing projects, and managing deadlines
Ability to incorporate knowledge gained from access to continuing professional development opportunities
