Director, Production

The Director of Machining is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the machining department, leading a multi-disciplinary team to ensure performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports across Supervision, Maintenance, & Scheduling
Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a high-performance culture
Ensure alignment with company values and plant objectives
Oversee daily operations for CNC and manual machining processes, managing workflow, staffing, and machine utilization
Maintain high safety standards and regulatory compliance across all areas of responsibility
Monitor KPIs such as OEE, first-pass yield, schedule adherence, and scrap rates
Develop and implement machining strategies that support customer demand, operational efficiency, and quality targets
Lead efforts to evaluate and adopt new technologies, equipment, and automation
Provide direction on tooling, process optimization, and best-in-class CNC programming practice
Oversee the preventive and predictive maintenance program for machining equipment
Work collaboratively with maintenance leadership to ensure maximum uptime and efficient resource utilization
Collaborate with Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, and Assembly to ensure seamless end-to-end production flow
Support New Product Development (NPD) and Engineering Change Procedures with robust process readiness and launch support
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for machining-related quality or delivery issues

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (required)
10+ years of experience in machining or manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
Strong understanding of CNC machining, CAM programming, maintenance systems, and production scheduling
Proven leadership in a high-mix, low-volume industrial manufacturing environment
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., PRMS) and production metrics

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification strongly preferred
Manufacturing experience in pumps, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial products
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
Hands-on involvement in automation, lights-out machining, or Industry 4.0 initiatives
