Responsibilities

Manage, mentor, and support a thriving, collaborative, distributed engineering team

Ensure collaborative cross-functional roadmap planning and maintain close partnerships across engineering, product, and other stakeholders

Drive technical direction, providing context to technical conversations that lead to clear goals and prioritization

Create just enough process to enable effective cross-functional planning, communication, and risk mitigation

Recruit and hire software engineers, and provide regular feedback and career development opportunities to the team

Clearly communicate upward and outward to set and adjust expectations for roadmaps and deliverables

Required

10+ years of domain relevant software engineering experience - i.e. backend & large scale distributed systems with expertise in modern programming languages and tooling

2+ years leading distributed systems engineering teams & managing engineers at all career levels

Experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms

Strong product and business orientation, with the ability to connect technical investments to business outcomes

Experience fostering inclusive, collaborative, and high-accountability engineering cultures

Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills

Preferred

Having built or run large-scale storage systems and real-time logging pipelines

A deep understanding of distributed databases and the trade-offs involved

Building developer tooling, including ergonomic SDK design that integrates cleanly into developer workflows

Experience with network protocols and caching concepts

Exposure to WebAssembly
