Innovate is seeking a senior, highly experienced Controls Team Leader to play a key role in building and scaling the controls and automation capability. This foundational leadership role involves working closely with the VP of Engineering to shape the team, set technical standards, and support the recruitment and development of controls engineers while remaining hands-on and customer-facing.

Responsibilities

Act as a technical leader and team lead, supporting the VP in building and developing a controls engineering team
Mentor, guide, and support controls engineers as the team grows
Help define technical standards, best practices, and delivery approaches for controls, robotics, and vision systems
Provide hands-on support across the full project lifecycle, from design through commissioning and startup
Serve as a technical escalation point for complex troubleshooting and system optimization
Work closely with customers, project managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery

Qualification

Required

Senior-level, hands-on experience with industrial automation technologies, including:
Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms
Industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)
Machine vision systems (Keyence, Cognex)
Broad exposure across PLCs, robotics, and vision systems is highly beneficial
Prior experience acting as a lead engineer, technical mentor, or informal people leader
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without heavy hierarchy
Based remotely (ideally in the Mid West) with extensive travel (80%+) to customer sites
