Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities

Design, install, and commission electrical systems including high-voltage power supplies, pulsed modulators, klystrons, and RF distribution networks for the electron linac
Maintain and troubleshoot accelerator components such as electron guns, accelerating structures, beam diagnostics, vacuum systems, and magnet power supplies
Develop and implement control systems (PLC-based or embedded) for beam monitoring, interlocks, and personnel/radiation safety systems
Document designs, procedures, and modifications; participate in safety reviews and root cause analyses for electrical or beam-related incidents
Support integration of new technologies, such as superconducting RF components or advanced diagnostics, to enhance production scalability

Required

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field
5+ years' experience in electrical systems for particle accelerators, high-power RF systems, pulsed power, or similar complex scientific instrumentation
Proficiency in high-voltage/high-power electronics, RF amplifiers (e.g., klystrons), PLC programming, and control systems (e.g., EPICS or similar)
Hands-on experience with troubleshooting in radiation environments, vacuum systems, or beamline instrumentation
Knowledge of radiation safety, interlock systems, and regulatory requirements for radiological facilities
Experience with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) and simulation software

Preferred

Master's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field
8+ years' experience in electrical systems for particle accelerators, high-power RF systems, pulsed power, or similar complex scientific instrumentation
Experience with electron linear accelerators (linacs) or medical/industrial accelerators
Experience at national labs, medical linacs, or isotope production facilities highly desirable
USPAS training/certification
Familiarity with isotope production processes
Certification in radiation safety or willingness to obtain relevant training
